"Marcus"

As I recall through my years of teaching I have encountered many children with heart touching stories, but the one that travels with me wherever I go is a story about a student whom I taught several years ago. He came from a divided home where one of five children. When he entered into my class each day he knew that he could be himself and receive equal amount of attention. My assistant teacher and I would take turns seeing to his well being by making sure that he would not leave our present the same way he came each day. We made sure his face and clothes where neat, provided attention, and nurture with nutritious meals. We also taught him self help and readiness skills. This daily routine built his self esteem so much. Before the school year ended this student and his family moved, and I could only hope that he carried the skills we provided with him.

Isn't this why we work with children? We want to make a difference in a child's life. I was touched by your story, and it reminded me of so many little ones whose lives I was able to touch in some way. Thanks for sharing!
